Premium Press Seal Bags, 50 Micron
Fifty micron is the working gauge for most commercial press seal applications. It has enough body to hold its shape when filled, enough strength for repeated opening and closing, and it stays economical at the volumes a busy operation actually consumes. Plastpack manufactures 50 micron press seal bags at our Werrington facility in a stock range running from 38mm x 50mm up to 460mm x 500mm, and to your own specification beyond that.
What 50 Micron Is Built For
The gauge of a press seal bag decides two things: whether the film survives the contents, and whether the closure keeps working after the twentieth time someone opens it. Thin film fails on both counts. It splits along the seal under load and the closure loses its grip once the strip has been stressed.
At 50 micron the film carries light to moderate contents comfortably, resists the everyday handling of picking, transfer and storage, and holds a reliable seal through repeated use. Clarity is high enough that staff identify contents at a glance without opening the bag, which is where most of the time saving on a picking line actually comes from.
Where the gauge reaches its limit is with weight, sharp edges and long freight legs. Hardware with cut threads, machined components, glass and anything with a corner will eventually work through 50 micron film. That is the point to move up to the
heavy duty 75 micron bag rather than accepting a failure rate.
Where 50 Micron Press Seal Bags Are Used
Food portioning and packing
Dry goods, prepared portions, produce and resealable retail packs. Specify food contact use when you enquire so the correct film is supplied. See our
food grade bags for more.
Retail and eCommerce
Accessories, small goods and multipack components presented clearly and protected from dust and handling marks through to the customer.
Parts and component supply
Fittings, seals, fasteners and small assemblies kept grouped and identifiable on the bench, in the van and on the shelf.
Pharmacy and laboratory support
General storage and dispensing support where contents need containment and clear visibility.
Samples and promotional packs
Trade show giveaways, product samples and starter kits made up in advance and held until needed.
Specifying the Right Bag
Size. Quoted as opening width by depth, with depth measured from the seal. Match the bag to the product so contents sit securely without excess film flapping around the closure. Most operations settle on two or three sizes that cover the bulk of what they pack.
Gauge. Fifty micron suits light to moderate contents and general handling. Move to 75 micron where the product has weight, sharp edges or a long freight leg ahead of it. Our guide on
what thickness you need works through the decision in detail.
Identification. If contents need marking with part numbers, batch codes or dates, the
write on panel bag carries a matt strip that takes pen or marker cleanly. Same gauge, same closure.
Branding. Where the bag is seen by a customer,
printed press seal bags carry up to six colour print on the same run.
Manufactured, Not Resold
Plastpack extrudes its own film, prints it and forms the finished bag under one roof. We hold substantial film stock, which is why lead times on standard specifications stay short and repeat orders dispatch quickly across Australia. If a stock size does not fit your product, we make to measure on size, gauge, seal and print. Minimum order quantity on a custom size is 10,000 units, and samples can be supplied for evaluation before you commit to a production run.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a 50 micron press seal bag used for?
Fifty micron is the general purpose commercial gauge. It suits food portioning, retail packs, small components, samples and general storage where contents are light to moderate and the bag is opened and closed repeatedly.
Is 50 micron strong enough for my product?
For light to moderate contents with smooth edges, yes. For products with weight, sharp edges or a long freight leg ahead of them, 75 micron resists puncture and holds the seal better. Match the gauge to the weight and edge profile of the contents.
What is the difference between 50 micron and 75 micron press seal bags?
Both use the same press seal closure. Seventy five micron film is thicker, so it resists puncture and tearing better and holds its seal under heavier loads. Fifty micron is the more economical choice where that extra strength is not needed.
Are 50 micron press seal bags food safe?
We manufacture food grade film for food contact applications, made to the relevant Australian food safety requirements. Specify food use when you enquire so the correct film is supplied.
What sizes are available?
Our stock range runs from 38mm x 50mm up to 460mm x 500mm. Sizes outside that range are made to order.
Can I order a custom size or printed bag?
Yes. As the manufacturer we produce to your size, gauge, seal type and print. The minimum quantity for a custom size is 10,000 units, with up to six colour printing available on the same run.
